All those who want to have a healthy scalp and great hair, go for a morning walk daily! We keep adding a lot of products on our scalp & hair to have a lustrous hair; however, very people know that a morning walk can provide you the same benefits. Walking helps in keeping hormones in your body to be well-balanced and improve blood circulation to help promote a healthy scalp and hair and prevent hair loss.

Why Should You Walk In The Mornings?

A 30-minute walk in the morning can change your life! A morning walk is easy on your joints and heart, and the fresh morning air can help calm your nerves, improve your mood, and keep you energetic and positive for the rest of the day.

The morning hours have the least amount of pollution in the air. Fresh air has oxygen in abundance, along with other gases. When you inhale oxygen, it gets delivered to the cells, which use it to perform all functions. When your body functions properly, the chance of you suffering from various diseases diminishes.

Secondly, the morning air is rich in negative ions and oxygen is negatively charged. So, the more the negative ions, the more the oxygen, and the better it is for you to breathe in that fresh air. These negative ions or oxygen in the air will help you feel rejuvenated and have a pleasant state of mind.

Helpful Tips for Walking

If you are thinking of making morning walks a regular part of your daily routine, here are a few tips you should keep in mind:

* Always keep your posture straight while walking. This will help you, especially if you are trying to tone your abs.
* Early morning walks are the best as your body is energized and blood circulation is increased. You also give your body the opportunity to absorb vitamin D from the sun’s first rays.
* If you want to lose a few extra pounds, a brisk morning walk every day is just what you need. When you walk fast, you burn more calories.
* Avoid going for a walk after eating as exercising after a meal affects the flow of digestive juices, which prevents the proper breaking down of food.
* It is best not to drink too much water while taking brisk walks as it may cause harm to the respiratory system. Experts recommend keeping your body hydrated before you start your walk or 5 minutes after you are done.

If you are just starting out on making walks a regular exercise, start at a pace that you are comfortable with and slowly build it up as the days go by. This makes sure that you do not exert your body too much right from the start.

How to walk to receive optimal benefits from your morning walk

Walk at a normal pace for 5 minutes to warm up your body. Then go for a brisk walk for about 20 minutes. This will generate lot of heat in your body and you will start sweating. Finally, slow down and walk slowly to allow your body to cool down. This routine is extremely useful for those who want to lose weight. This will improve blood circulation and will help you feel healthy and fit.

Also, after coming back from your regular morning walk, take a bath or shower in lukewarm water to remove the dirt and sweat from the body. This will keep your body clean and you will feel active and energetic. Note: As a caution, people who suffer from arthritis, osteoporosis and any bone related disease, it is preferable to walk slowly at your normal pace. Do not opt for brisk walks as it may hurt the affected regions.

A new client with thick, naturally wavy hair came in this week with approximately 1″ of regrowth and chunky highlights done on the top of her head and underneath around her nape for when she wore her hair up.

A new base color one level lighter than what she previously had been wearing was chosen to soften her look and bring out her light brown eye color. After processing the new base color, a full head of small weaved highlights were done due to her hair’s thickness to brighten up the entire head and blend in the chunkier highlights on the top. Her color service was followed up with Olaplex for 15 minutes & a protein/moisture conditioner for 5 minutes.

At the styling chair, a leave-in color saver was applied followed by Aquage SeaExtend silkening oil treatment and straightening ultragel. Her hair was blown-dry straight and lightly flat ironed before finishing off her haircut dry with a “Clavicut” style. The Clavicut style can be tailored to face shape and hair type ~ worn straight, wavy or curly. The longest layers of this cut graze the clavicle and this collarbone-skimming style is fast becoming the hairstyle of choice for all ages due to its functionality and ease. With this style, she will be able to wear her hair down without it weighing her down and her up-do styles will still be very romantic.

Looking for a haircut or color change? Don’t know if the “Clavicut” is for you? Let me help you decide! Contact me today to help you with your choice of a new style or hair color to help you look and feel the best you can now! ~ Denise Zingale (216) 292-4247

Color & Haircut Makeover for over 60

Color & haircut by, Denise Zingale / D’MAZ Lifestyle Salon (216) 292-HAIR (4247)

This is a client who is a working professional and travel enthusiast. She wanted to grow her hair out “one last time” to see how it would look. The day came and she had enough of her long hair and told me to do anything I wanted! Well … it did come with some requests…. She ask me to leave it long enough to to pull it up as well a have versatility and style when she wore it down and she wanted her hairline grey to be minimized so as not to show within a few weeks of growing out. I began with her color – two inches around her face was zig-zagged out and a shade lighter than the rest of her base color that I use on the rest of her head was applied to minimize her hairline grey showing to quickly. A full head of highlights then was done to give her a dimensional, brighter look and add body to her fine hair. For her haircut, I decided that a combination of a  “Lob” & “Swag” would be the desired look for her. Enough length was removed and layers were added to still allow for her hair to be styled up as well as worn down straight or curled. Light “curtain” bangs softened her forehead. (not shown).

Steps:

1. Divide hair at the crown of the head into two even sections, then tie into a simple knot.

2. Add hair to each side of the knot (as you would doing a french braid) then tie into another knot below the first.

3. Repeat previous step for a third section, pulling hair from each side.

4. Use the remaining amount of hair for the fourth and final knot.

5. Fasten the bottom with an elastic band. You can either leave the style as a low ponytail or (6) tuck the hair up and underneath the knots with bobby pins to create an updo.

This is a client who came in with natural “mousy” brown hair color. She wanted it to “pop”, look richer, healthier, shinier AND not have a commitment to coloring it regularly. I did a full head, fine low-lighting technique with a dark, chocolate red brown color and added Olaplex to her color service. Olaplex is a professional product that reconnects the broken disulfide sulfur bonds in the hair that are broken during chemical services. Olaplex is free of silicone, sulfates, phthalates, DEA, aldehydes, & gluten. After coloring and the Olaplex “after treatments” (#2 & #3), it was time to taking off approximately 2 inches help give her hair a nice line again. Here are the beautiful results! Color Make-over: Brass to Blonde

This is a new client that came in asking me for color only to minimize her grey regrowth in the front – get rid of some of the “brassy” color – and have more natural brighter blonde look. To minimize her regrowth in the front, I zig-zagged a color 1 level lighter at the base regrowth than what I used on the rest of her head to cover her grey. Baby-lights where then foiled in half her head to brighten her blonde up. Results below with no haircut or “styling”.

How to Tell If Short Hair Will Look Good on You

All you need is a ruler and a pencil ~
By: Denise Zingale Travis / D’MAZ Lifestyle Salon (216) 292-HAIR (4247)

It is a question hairstylists and reliable friends are often asked; “do you think short hair would look good on me?” Thanks to celebrities recently liberating their locks with crops, bobs and lobs, that question gets asked more often than not.

Well the question of flattery has a short answer: The 2.25″ (5.5cm) rule.

The magic measurement was discovered by hairstylist, John Frieda and it is all about the angles. The angle of the jaw bone determines whether or not someone would look best with short hair or long hair. It is said the result is a trusted, easy and exact measurement that can indicated whether a face (any face) is suited to short or long hair.

Can you wear shor hair example1

To try it, position a pencil or pen under your chin horizontally and then place a ruler under your ear, vertically. Take your measurement from the intersection of the pencil and ruler. Less than 2.25″ and you could  look amazing with short hair, and if it’s anything more long locks will be the most flattering choice for you.

This is a great time of the year to rejuvenate you and your look. Contact me to help you in your choice of a new style to help you look and feel the best you can! ~ Denise Zingale Travis (216) 292-HAIR (4247).

Sometimes even professionally done color needs correction. Here is a client that came in to me asking for her hair to look more “natural” with highlights and wanting to get rid of the “orange” (brassy) color in her hair. She also wanted to keep her hair on the long side but wanted it to have some style. Below are the before & afters.
