Women’s hairstyle trends today are diversified and provide endless creativity when it comes to innovations and new beauty looks.

From timeless all-natural and highly textured hairstyles to extravagant braids, updos and twists, Women’s hairstyle trends show immense incentives and complementing style alternatives for all hair types and face shapes to highlight your best features. Check out some of these great hairstyle trends below!

Half-Up Half-Down Hairstyles ~
Being the intermediate variant between loose hair and stylish updo’s, half-up half-down hairstyles are one easy way of concealing a bad hair day. These effortless and versatile hairstyles make a continuous comeback especially with the addition of minimalist metallic hair accessories.

All Forms of Ponytails ~
When it comes to the most versatile and coolest Women’s hairstyles, the ponytail comes first on the list. This hair style has been reinvented, revitalized and refreshed. Whether you have long, medium-length or short hair long enough to be put into a ponytail, this hair style is the perfect thing you can consider for looking effortless and chic on a daily basis, as well as for making a big style statement on special events. High or low ponytails can be full & bouncy, sleek and glossy, bubbled, slightly textured, or softly crimped.

Buns, Knots and Twists ~
Women’s alternative to the structured updo’s are buns, knots & twists.

Braided Hairstyles ~
Braided hairstyles compliment any taste and personality. For the ultimate elegant outcome you can consider the braided buns.

Crimped Hair ~
Coming from the nineties, crimped hair is again “trendy” and adds so much texture to hair whether wearing it in a ponytail or loose for a “waffle” texture look. To achieve the crimped look, you will need a hair crimper, or you can braid wet hair, let it dry completely and then unravel or braid dry hair and then pass the sections through a flat iron a few times, cool it, then unravel the braids and enjoy this trendy chic hairstyle!

The Clavicut

Have you heard of the clavicut? This current “beauty buzzword” describes mid-length, in-between hair, long bobs, and shoulder-length styles. The name comes from the fact that the longest layers of this type of cut graze the clavicle, and this collarbone-skimming style has become the hairdo of choice due to its functionality and ease. It’s been a long few seasons of bobs, lobs, swags, shags, etc. You may have opted for one of these styles, or seriously thought about it and decided to keep your long layers anyway. The Clavicut is a trend almost anyone can get behind; young or mature,  growing out a shorter cut, or looking for a change to the same old “long”.

This style can be tailored to your face shape and hair type, although this length is great for anyone. Consider blunt edges for a more dramatic look, or soft layers to blend thicker textures. To make it more modern, opt for bangs with your clavicut for a statement look.

With this length; wearing your hair down won’t weigh you down and up-styles are still romantic. You will still have enough length to successfully air dry, without having a tangled mess or tons of flyaways – it is the perfect middle ground for easy styling and easy care. Although saying good-bye to your long locks might sound scary, this cut could be life changing, in the best way. Opt for a new outlook with this style and shed some of your inhibitions along with those inches. Call: (216) 292-4247 to schedule an appointment for your new look today!

This Knotted Updo is simple to execute and is perfect for day or night. Wear it as a sleek pony, or pin it up for a casual updo.

Steps:

1. Divide hair at the crown of the head into two even sections, then tie into a simple knot.

2. Add hair to each side of the knot (as you would doing a french braid) then tie into another knot below the first.

3. Repeat previous step for a third section, pulling hair from each side.

4. Use the remaining amount of hair for the fourth and final knot.

5. Fasten the bottom with an elastic band. You can either leave the style as a low ponytail or (6) tuck the hair up and underneath the knots with bobby pins to create an updo.

Color Enhancement ~ Richer, Shinier Hair

This is a client who came in with natural “mousy” brown hair color. She wanted it to “pop”, look richer, healthier, shinier AND not have a commitment to coloring it regularly. I did a full head, fine low-lighting technique with a dark, chocolate red brown color and added Olaplex to her color service. Olaplex is a professional product that reconnects the broken disulfide sulfur bonds in the hair that are broken during chemical services. Olaplex is free of silicone, sulfates, phthalates, DEA, aldehydes, & gluten. After coloring and the Olaplex “after treatments” (#2 & #3), it was time to taking off approximately 2 inches help give her hair a nice line again. Here are the beautiful results! To achieve this look on shorter hair, skip step 4 and just wrap the topsy tail around your finger once, then use extra bobby pins to fasten any shorter pieces into the roll. If you have curly hair, follow the same steps – your final look will just be more tousled.

Color Make-over: Brass to Blonde

This is a new client that came in asking me for color only to minimize her grey regrowth in the front – get rid of some of the “brassy” color – and have more natural brighter blonde look. To minimize her regrowth in the front, I zig-zagged a color 1 level lighter at the base regrowth than what I used on the rest of her head to cover her grey. Baby-lights where then foiled in half her head to brighten her blonde up. Results below with no haircut or “styling”.

How to Tell If Short Hair Will Look Good on You

Written by: Denise Zingale Date of published: . Posted in fall hairstyles, Fashion, Hair Color, hair texture, make-overs, News, Perms / Body Waves, Publications, Spring hairstyles, Summer hairstyles, thinning hair, Tips, Uncategorized, Women's Hairstyles

All you need is a ruler and a pencil ~
By: Denise Zingale Travis / D’MAZ Lifestyle Salon (216) 292-HAIR (4247)

It is a question hairstylists and reliable friends are often asked; “do you think short hair would look good on me?” Thanks to celebrities recently liberating their locks with crops, bobs and lobs, that question gets asked more often than not.

Well the question of flattery has a short answer: The 2.25″ (5.5cm) rule.

The magic measurement was discovered by hairstylist, John Frieda and it is all about the angles. The angle of the jaw bone determines whether or not someone would look best with short hair or long hair. It is said the result is a trusted, easy and exact measurement that can indicated whether a face (any face) is suited to short or long hair.

Can you wear shor hair example1

To try it, position a pencil or pen under your chin horizontally and then place a ruler under your ear, vertically. Take your measurement from the intersection of the pencil and ruler. Less than 2.25″ and you could  look amazing with short hair, and if it’s anything more long locks will be the most flattering choice for you.

Can you wear short hair exampleThis example works well well with Michelle Williams and Kim Kardashian (pictured), and when you think of other examples such as Audrey Hepburn next to Sarah Jessica Parker it becomes very clear.

Hairstyles for Men

Written by: Denise Zingale Date of published: . Posted in Blow-dry Hairstyling, fall hairstyles, Fashion, hair loss, hair texture, make-overs, Men's Hair, Men's Styles, News, Publications, Tips, Uncategorized

Even though trends and tastes have changed in the past decade, many gents are still choosing to wear their hair in  more classic styles. The haircuts look crisp and sharp. A lot of men are also sporting a full beard with these styles, which creates a dramatic contrast and adds to the disjointed effect created by cutting the sides tight.

Although I have seen a slight decline in men coloring their hair, coloring doesn’t need to be so dramatic. There are many products, colors and techniques that can be used to lighten/darken the hair or just add tone. Men could definitely experiment with color more, even if it’s only slightly lightening the hair to give it a sun-kissed appearance or using highlights/low-lights to add texture, definition, or grey blend a cut at key areas.

As men mature, so does their style. That often comes with life experience and a deeper understanding of who you are. There are many different hairstyles men can wear these days; but I do see though the men’s looks continuing to remain more traditional and grounded by timeless cuts & styles.

The “SWAG”

Looking to switch up your look with a new haircut? The hottest cut still going strong is the “Swag”, which is short for Swingy-Shag. This is a fun take on the 70’s shag cut, and is a very versatile trend on any age. The Swag cut embraces natural texture while being fun & playful & “choppy” layers through the crown, and a more heavy weight line on the perimeter. This cut also plays well with fringe, and you can see from these pictures that the length of the cut can vary from shoulder length down to mid-chest.

You can opt to wear a center part with “curtain bangs” that frame the face nicely, or opt for a deep side parting and a side-swept bang. Either way the cut is youthful and a perfect transformation on any age.

To achieve this look, depending on your hair texture, a razor may be used or a slithering technique with scissors to cut the layers and fringe, for a more textured appearance, and to lighten the hair so it has that swingy bounce we are looking for. Once you have the Swag cut, keep your styling loose looking by prepping your hair with professional only hair products specifically recommended for your hair type & texture and then wrapping large sections of hair around a curling wand, for the perfect loose waves.

The “SWAG” is a versatile and hair color enhances this style. Rejuvenate you and your look. Don’t let your age to be the factor in your hairstyle choice ~ it is all about you and how you feel! Sometimes even professionally done color needs correction. Here is a client that came in to me asking for her hair to look more “natural” with highlights and wanting to get rid of the “orange” (brassy) color in her hair. She also wanted to keep her hair on the long side but wanted it to have some style. Below are the before & afters.

The lob. When it comes to all of the words out there, it’s not exactly the prettiest one on the planet. But if you know someone who happens to have a lob (a long bob) hairstyle, you can vouch for the fact that the ‘do makes you more than willing to overlook its awkward name. If you’ve been contemplating getting this hairstyle but you’re wondering if basically all lobs look alike, below you’ll find many different looks that are easy on the eyes and pretty simple when it comes to the upkeep too.

Best Hairstyles for Women over 50

Written by: Denise Zingale Date of published: . Posted in Blow-dry Hairstyling, Color make-over, fall hairstyles, Fashion, Hair Color, hair texture, Health and Wellness, Holiday Hairstyles, make-overs, News, Perms / Body Waves, Publications, Spring hairstyles, Summer hairstyles, Tips, Uncategorized, Women's Hairstyles

By: Denise Zingale Travis / D’MAZ Lifestyle Salon (216) 292-HAIR (4247)

Majority think the rule for the best haircuts for women over 50 is short. This was correct until the early 20th century, but now, there are no more rules. Let your hair grow or cut it very short; it is now all up to you and working with a creative and experienced hairstylist. One major factor to consider with any style is color (dimensional color preferably) usually within a shade or two of your natural color will help make you look more youthful!

A woman’s age will never have her stop wishing to be beautiful and stylish. Even if you are in your 50s, you are still interested in the last trends and styles. When most women get older, their hair does become thinner. This is the reason why many mature women prefer to cut their hair shorter and the medium haircuts for women over 50 with fine hair have become really popular. So to help you decide what you may want or need, I have gathered some haircuts and styles in various hair colors for women over 50, so you can get inspired!

Short and sexy – Some of the haircuts & styles for women over 50 are short; most everybody agrees but this is not a must. These haircuts are very sexy and have a lot of potential. Add asymmetrical layers, bangs, or choppy layers for interest. The pixie haircut has become even more of a favorite haircut for many women over 50 especially with fine hair. These haircuts don’t need much maintenance or time to style; they look great in the morning and can be styled  seductively for evening.

Medium and classic – The layered bob with natural looking dimensional hair color is one of the best and most popular haircut styles for women over 50. Customized layering gives each woman an individual fresh and modern look. It works with many textures of hair, and suits most any face shape from jaw line to the shoulders. It can be styled fun & flirty to classy & elegant. Having a layered bob hairstyle means you will need to take care of your hair maintenance a little more – but this style is worth it!

Long and elegant – There are long haircuts for older women that will make you look really stylish, but you have to pay attention when choosing them. Haircuts & styles for women over 50 with long hair can give you a sophisticated look depending on the length of it. A long-layered or “Shag” haircut looks good on most all face shapes and works on most any hair texture. Adding dimensional highlighting and low-lights to a layered style gives it body, volume and interest. It can be worn down casual and wavy. Body waving your hair can give you a “beach” look or you can blow your hair out straight – but not stick straight (which can be aging!) You will need to take care of your hair more at home using a professional conditioner daily and hair mask every week.
