All those who want to have a healthy scalp and great hair, go for a morning walk daily! We keep adding a lot of products on our scalp & hair to have a lustrous hair; however, very people know that a morning walk can provide you the same benefits. Walking helps in keeping hormones in your body to be well-balanced and improve blood circulation to help promote a healthy scalp and hair and prevent hair loss.

Why Should You Walk In The Mornings?

A 30-minute walk in the morning can change your life! A morning walk is easy on your joints and heart, and the fresh morning air can help calm your nerves, improve your mood, and keep you energetic and positive for the rest of the day.

The morning hours have the least amount of pollution in the air. Fresh air has oxygen in abundance, along with other gases. When you inhale oxygen, it gets delivered to the cells, which use it to perform all functions. When your body functions properly, the chance of you suffering from various diseases diminishes.

Secondly, the morning air is rich in negative ions and oxygen is negatively charged. So, the more the negative ions, the more the oxygen, and the better it is for you to breathe in that fresh air. These negative ions or oxygen in the air will help you feel rejuvenated and have a pleasant state of mind.

Helpful Tips for Walking

If you are thinking of making morning walks a regular part of your daily routine, here are a few tips you should keep in mind:

* Always keep your posture straight while walking. This will help you, especially if you are trying to tone your abs.
* Early morning walks are the best as your body is energized and blood circulation is increased. You also give your body the opportunity to absorb vitamin D from the sun’s first rays.
* If you want to lose a few extra pounds, a brisk morning walk every day is just what you need. When you walk fast, you burn more calories.
* Avoid going for a walk after eating as exercising after a meal affects the flow of digestive juices, which prevents the proper breaking down of food.
* It is best not to drink too much water while taking brisk walks as it may cause harm to the respiratory system. Experts recommend keeping your body hydrated before you start your walk or 5 minutes after you are done.

If you are just starting out on making walks a regular exercise, start at a pace that you are comfortable with and slowly build it up as the days go by. This makes sure that you do not exert your body too much right from the start.

How to walk to receive optimal benefits from your morning walk

Walk at a normal pace for 5 minutes to warm up your body. Then go for a brisk walk for about 20 minutes. This will generate lot of heat in your body and you will start sweating. Finally, slow down and walk slowly to allow your body to cool down. This routine is extremely useful for those who want to lose weight. This will improve blood circulation and will help you feel healthy and fit.

Also, after coming back from your regular morning walk, take a bath or shower in lukewarm water to remove the dirt and sweat from the body. This will keep your body clean and you will feel active and energetic. Note: As a caution, people who suffer from arthritis, osteoporosis and any bone related disease, it is preferable to walk slowly at your normal pace. Do not opt for brisk walks as it may hurt the affected regions.

Winter Wellness for your Hair

From hat hair to static electricity, split ends to dry frizz, when winter weather hits, a bad hair day can last an entire season. Hair typically gets 25 percent dryer during the winter. Even if you live in a moderate climate, you’re still susceptible to hair-raising changes as the seasons pass.

The environment can have some of the most damaging effects on hair in both summer and winter, but in winter it’s often worse because people generally don’t take as many precautions to protect their hair. Sun exposure (which can be as intense on a ski slope as it is on a beach) combined with blustery winter wind as well as snow, rain, and icy cold (which makes hair brittle and dry) can all come together to create some very bad winter hair days.

Even if you spend most of your time indoors, winter is still your hair’s enemy. Indoor heating can be something akin to spending an entire afternoon under a hair dryer. Honestly, it’s not quite as dramatic as the damage would be from that, but it certainly gives you an idea of what indoor heating can do to your hair. No matter what’s causing your winter hair woes, it is a fact the hair tends to become dry faster and have more breakage in the winter.

Here are 5 simple nourishing, replenishing and protective steps you can take for winter hair wellness ~

1. Make sure you are equipped with a high quality, salon professional shampoo and conditioner. The right shampoo and conditioner at this time of the year will help repair, seal and smooth your hair. A good hair mask is highly recommended once to twice a week for severely damaged hair. Hair Masks are wonderful for winter stressed hair. Please note: Do not over use “Protein” treatments or conditioners. Actual protein treatments or conditioners help to reinforce weak hair but should only be used when professionally recommended. Over use of “protein” on the hair can cause buildup resulting in dry, brittle hair and breakage.

2. Avoid over-washing your hair in winter and in the shower. Try to wash it over the sink or tub with warm to cool water. The pressure of the shower head and the hot water causes the formation of tiny chinks in the surrounding cuticle which adds to the problems of hair dryness and breakage.

3. Towel-dry your hair very gently post shampooing and conditioning as aggressive rubbing roughs up the cuticle that can lead to breakage. Less friction results also in less frizzing!

4. Professionally prescribed styling products including Liquid Spell & Oi All-in-One Milk for men and women are a must to help protect the hair from thermal styling and the environment. “Layering” your hair products individually and combing each through thoroughly can help achieve added protection, control, texture, shine and reduce static. Professional hair products are not only recommended for men’s hair but for also softening and controlling beards!  If using a blow-dryer, direct warm (not hot) air from the down to encourage hair to lay flatter.

5. Plenty of water and good nutrition that incorporates small portions of all the key food groups such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables and lean protein sources helps to nourish and protect hair. Taking a quality-grad multivitamin with essential B vitamins (B6, B12, folate), essential fatty acids and adequate minerals can help dry, weak hair prone to breakage in the winter. Read more here about the Top 10 herbs for hair growth & Your Diet, Your Hair.

Finally, use a Humidifier (moist air). Dry air from either climate conditions or working in a building that pumps air (hot or cold) in can result in lifeless, flat, dry, and flyaway hair. Regularly run a humidifier to help put moisture back into the air.

The haircare lines at D’MAZ Lifestyle Salon were very carefully chosen based on their proven ability to perform and give the best results with attention and respect for the environment using high-grade natural and organic ingredients. It would be a pleasure to prescribe for you a custom home regimen that would help give your hair the best health, shine, and control for your hair texture and type. 5 Reasons Not To Use Box Hair Color

Written by: Denise Zingale Date of published: . Posted in Environmental, Fashion, Hair Color, hair texture, Health and Wellness, News, Philanthropy, Publications, Tips, Uncategorized, Wellness, Women's Hairstyles

By: Denise Zingale / D’MAZ Lifestyle Salon (216) 292-HAIR (4247)

Box color is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.”

Chocolate hair color photo1) Box color has unpredictable results and does not condition the hair
Hairdressers are trained in the “laws of color”. We know what colors to mix to cancel out undesired “tones” in your hair and we know exactly what color your hair is when the color is processing, and when to take the color off to achieve your most desired result. Most box color will come with a “conditioning packet” for after you wash the color out. This “conditioning packet” contain petroleum based ingredients that coat your hair masking the dryness and damage from the box coloring process.

2) One Size Does Not Fit All
Box color is formulated so that everyone and anyone can use it, but not everyone’s hair type, porosity, condition or color is even remotely the same. Box colors are formulated with high amounts of pigment and developer, so that it is able to work on a lot of people. If you have already colored your hair previously, your processed hair is not going to require the same formula or developer.

3) Box Color Is Only ONE Color
Your regrowth will always need a different color formulation than the rest of your head and if you want some actual dimension that takes much more skill than an all over color application. You will not be able to achieve that with the one color present in a box. Hairdressers use nothing less than 2 different colors to mix your desired color – it’s always customized!

4) Box Color contains high levels of PPDs & Nitro dyes
Box colors contain high amounts of pigment, PPD (p- phenylenediamine) which form hair dyes on a chemical reaction and performed dyes, nitro-p-phenylenediamine which already are dyes and are added to achieve the intended shades along with a developer. Box color has an excessive amount of PPDs & nitro, which can cause skin sensitivities, allergies and be very damaging to the hair. They do not come out.

5) Box color & Henna contain Metallic Salts
There are still many box colors on the market today that use metallic salts, an ingredient used in box hair color since the 1800s. Metallic salts build up on the hair causing each time you use that box color or Henna (the supposed natural hair color) for your hair to darken past your desired result. Not to mention that if you ever want to change your hair color or go lighter, metallic salts can be difficult to remove for even the most experienced hairdresser. The problem with metallic dyes is that they don’t play well with others. You put any other type of hair color on your hair and you can have a chemical reaction happen such as heat, smoke, and burning hair. (Remember chemistry lab?)

6) That $10 Box Color Won’t Feel That Affordable After a $500 Color Correction
So you decided not to heed the 5 reasons above and you are now orange (“brassy”). This is often the color the hair will turn when coloring (especially lightening) with box color. Color correction starts at approximately $100.00 an hour so please do yourself a favor before you end up with this result; research, call and consult with a Professional Hairdresser. Quality, safe hair color will NEVER be found in a box on the market ~ your hair AND your wallet will thank you! For your personalized, private appointment with Denise, call: tel:(216) 292-4247
